I’m not really saying that Blacksburg is too isolated and therefor it’s difficult to compete....rather I am saying that Blacksburg is not so well known (due to a a lot of factors including less wins and less focus by the coaching staff on recruiting Virginia until the past couple of years) that in a year where other schools are competing for the same local players, the local advantage is largely reduced if visits are not possible....the staff ignored Virginia for too long and refocused recruiting in Virginia in a year that they could not sell one of the big advantages....every visit to Tech, state players will see people they know that love the school and make it more attractive. A few high value local players also make it more attractive for out of state players to join a team that has a chance to win...it compounds on itself. Hopefully the positive responses lead to renewed recruiting success.
